First and most importantly, the game does not recognize my Fanatec 2.5 base with V3 pedals. So much for supporting the "popular brands of steering wheels". LOL!Because of that I was unable to even get a car on the track. But I did load the car into the garage in VR with my Rift. What I saw was the ugliest graphics I have ever seen in VR. Heck, Vorpx looks 100 times better than this--and I'm not impressed with Vorpx. Also, the textures' quality itself looks like a really bad cartoon. Just awful. This game is years away from being anything I would touch again, probably never. As a general rule I try to support indie titles but this has the impression of being beyond hope. They should be paying us to try it, not the other way around.. Lets ignore all the performance UI and content issues since it's BETA.But the basic physics model does not scream anything different, the only plus I can say is the steering centering force is spot on and catching a slide is very easy. But other than that, simply could not tell the quality of the force feedback model due to how basic the stage surface bump texture is, neither could we examine how advanced the suspension model is either. Some basic game asset such as the default cars should be improved to at least give people a better first impression as well.. Great potential but lacks some things I look for- controller support and automatic transmission. Yes, I am that type of player- I love the driving experience but play with a gamepad and automatic transmission. The game currently suffers from the weakness of Richard Burns Rally- the triggers on gamepads are seen as one axis, so cannot be used for brake and throttle, unlike most modern games. Deal breaker right there. When this small issue is fixed, then I will be all on board for the great flexibility and modding potential. Please make this playable with a gamepad and automatic transmission like all other modern racing games.. has potential,if you like simsbadly need auditory que for tires locking up.. Not reccomended in its current state even at the price point its at right now. Xpand rally is a much better game for the same money. Wait for G Rally to improve before buying.. It doesn't make sense to hate on gRally at this stage. It is Early Access and it is cheap. Support titles like this because that is what Early Access is about. The devs have clearly put a lot of work into getting it to this point, given their circumstances, and as a genuine supportable Early Access title, it definitely fits the mould.A lot of work is needed, but I had no trouble getting going. VR just worked perfectly straight from the beginning, and my Thrustmaster T150 and T3PA pedals were recognised and needed no configuration (except to invert inputs). As others have mentioned, the sound and the visuals are big problems, but the interface is clean and easy to navigate and the actual driving feels decent.Very curious to see where this goes and I do hope some modders jump at it.. Review has been edited after fitting correct tyres.Ok time for my first impressions. I have been playing this on and off for a few days so this review is not a knee jerk but fairly well considered. A lot of what I have to say seems negative but hopefully the developers will take some points on board.Firstly it just doesn't feel like how I would expect a rally car to drive. The car seemed to under-steer terribly but reading the forums I found this was because I had the tarmac tyres on (I was racing on the gArena which requires the forest tyres). With the correct tyres installed I could put in some consistent fast last times and the whole thing feels much better now but not how I imagine a modern rally car would feel. I still maintain that the cars feel slow but maybe other factors are at play such as camera zoom.Graphically the game is very average. There are plenty of options to adjust the look of the game with various post processing options but the game looks almost the same with these all turned on. The game uses the Unity engine which I know can produce better visuals than we are getting here and better performance. The tracks look pretty bland and repetitive and the cars look like they have been taken from an old PlayStation title. The whole thing just lacks flair. Please do something about the tyre marks as they are truly appalling. The user interface looks slick but is let down when it comes to using it. Important buttons are disguised as tiny round icons, some of which seem to have no relation to their purpose (the car select 'button' looks like 2 cars crashing into each other and the setup icon looks like something from a chemistry set!). There is no in game help to tell you what keys you should know about and no instructions to tell you how get the most out of the game. The game does have plenty of options which is good and there seems to be lots of tweaking options for control but having played around with it quite a bit it was still a job to set up an x-box controller and even now just the slightest touch on the steering seems to send it to full lock, which may explain the under-steering.The game does not save your setting either so you can set the camera up how you like or pick one of the presets but when you come back to the game you have to do it all over again which is frustrating.A major omission is the lack of restart the stage button. If you mess up and want to try again it seems you have to quit back to the menus and then reload the track which is annoying. The sound is pretty weak with the cars sounding weak and under powered, which maybe they are.I believe it has taken the developers 8 years to get to this stage and honestly I cannot see how. I can only assume it wasn't 8 years full-time.Having said all of the above I really hope this develops into something better. I have been waiting for it for a while and am honestly a little disappointing but I do actually enjoy driving it now I have got used to it and it can only get better so I am keeping the game and it is currently my game of choice for a quick break from work (which is, coincidentally, developing my own racing game.)So overall I am recommending this game because I believe it will transform into something great and at this price you honestly cannot go wrong.. Ok, so as others have said, super early days. But there is the bones of what could be good fun. Looking forward to more of the game as it becomes more polished!I don't have my wheel set up as yet, so there is a bit of fiddling to get stuff working, and if you make config changes, there's no 'reset to default' button - just exit the game and delete config.ini in the gRally folder, the game will remake it.Tough with digital input, but after a few laps I could get some kind of control over the car and get some nice drifts on the gravel. Keys if anyone is interested:Gear Up: QGear Down: SpaceHandbrake: Z (Must release at start of stage to go anywhere)Accelerate: SBrake: XLeft: <Right: >Couldnt get the controller working (apart from analogue steering) - it probably would given a bit of experimentation with the config file and button mapping.I feel that Mark Race's review below ( https:\/\/steamcommunity.com\/profiles\/76561197971539421\/recommended\/605760\/ ) is the fairest. I have no VR though, so can't comment on that. But as he says, be warned! If you want the game fully formed and served up to you, don't get it. If you don't mind a bit of fiddling (reminds me of messing around with emm386.exe!) and want to support the (indie) devs' efforts (IN THEIR OWN TIME!), then get it. It is only 3 quid. At that price, the content available is worth it, I feel.. If you are interested in participating of potentialy awesome rally sim birth, then you should definitely be in.If you are impatent, spoiled simracer and a bandwagoner, can not be bothered in anything but five stars elite mega super placebo stuff, then you shouldn't. Imo graphics of this game are irrelevant, it just will have to move to better engine if it picks up.Content is also irrelevant as for now it is all about basic features and functionality, which is IMo rather good. I would like some high speed longer rally stages, because I found them a bit twisty and slow now.FFB and controls I found good with my T300 and TH8A.Physics was a bit disappointing to me at first, but then found out that I need to chhoose forest tire for gravel, and then it was pretty awesome I'd like to say. I would expect lots more depth in physics in future, but it is pretty good now actually, I was having quite a time, really not bad.Sound is rather week, I totally miss gravel sounds. But it is alright for now.I could totaly see this going big if enough good guys will support it financially by buying and spiritually by giving good and useful feedback. There is a ton of work to do\/improve, but I'd say that this is a good for the very enter into the public. Maybe in a few years this could be quite popular if it starts to improve rapidly. I think it is possible.
